I love my 2022 BMW R 1250 GSA, Sade. I’ve only been stranded three times in three years. That compares to once or twice a week with my Harley 1994 Heritage Softail, Jade. Jade has made a great paper weight. I miss the rumble sometimes. I was out on a midnight ride one night with Sade in 2022 and hit a nail. I rode the almost flat back tire to a quick stop shop. I made calls all night to get a tow until 9 am the next morning. I finally thought call the BMW shop! They were there in 45 minutes. A gas line seal had a leak and I didn’t want to crank it smelling gas. I had also set the bike down on it’s side because my knee revolted. James from BMW came to the rescue and did that amazing superman lift where he walked it up with a backward lift!
This was a Roku cam. This is a technique move by James. I’ve seen it on videos and I tried it myself. I just couldn’t do it. One time my neighbor Gary and I lifted it in Tandem. I’ve hauled and lifted my entire life and even worked for a moving company. This is an art form. I only wish I took a better video!
20251211 I took off for a winter ride. I hadn’t cranked the bike in a week. However she fired right up. I tempted the rush hour traffic but didn’t feel like getting involved in a three way drafting event. I could have been smashed by a propane truck followed by a utility truck and a car. Then two cars in opposite directions would have finished me off if the propane explosion didn’t!
My goal for today was to shake off all the bad news and go look at Lake Thom-a-Lex and to test my first effort at cleaning sensor spots. I had three cameras to clean. The Nikon D7000 is a learner’s Nikon that is doubling for me as a gopro for my bike. It came out of hibernation because GoPros just don’t cooperate. However the sensor on the D7000 was dirty and left spots on my last ride. My wife and I went in for the sensor cleaning together. We got the worst spots but I can still see a very faint one that I need to go after. I’ve learned that even with a wind sock on a microphone that the wind noise audio is to hard to listen to unless I adjust the volume with Final Cut Pro.
When I got to the lake and was ready to come home I pushed the starter and heard starter noise/nothing. I backed off. Second time I hear starter noise then nothing. I waited five minutes thinking I could sneak up on it and start her up. Starter noise then nothing. So cussing helped me get started on rescue. Somehow James from BMW in Greensboro made it to The Lake before my wife did. We barely made it out the gate before closing time. But what a great place to get stuck. My bike was due a service call anyway. I’ll either need a new battery or have to buy a trickle charger to keep the first battery that is three years old some extra life. I forgot that the D7000 makes a 20mb photo. That was at a time when I phones were making 2mb photos.
When James got there Sade cranked right up! I’ll trust my instinct and let them do an inspection!
2025 has been a bad year for batteries for me. I need two for the truck, three for the trailer, One for the scooter and one for my motorcycle. But don’t confuse this with me being ungrateful. They are good problems to have. I wish they made a trickle charger for Humans!
Snot nose Shane testing a wind breaker filter. It won’t work.
Listen to all that wind noise and I’m not even riding yet. This was just seconds before that battery began to laugh at me!
I decided to break this video and a few stills down in shorter bursts.
