Live Longer and Prosper!
Written by Richard L Rogers.
Where I Am From
I am from the depths of eternity
I am from the dark recesses and crevices of the mind of the Great I Am
I am from a home forged in a cauldron of necessity
That endured the Great Depression with a lifeline so fragile that I was nearly left behind
I am from nature’s muck and slime of a different time
Before humanity developed a mind or walked upright and left its ignominious nature behind
Before society was intent on how its citizens were shaped or bent
I am from the hills and vales of a forest primeval
From Mount Olympus and Mount Parnassus
I’m from a family with similar genetic traits of soft-spokenness, introversion, and a tendency to procrastinate
From both fool and genius. I get my advice “not to be beaten before my time” and to “create poetry with or without rhyme”
I’m from a group of freethinkers who believe the only revelation that is accessible to humanity is the natural world. Religions come and go, but the earth abides forever. Proof that there is a power greater than man…a being or force that sustains the universe but whose traits and attributes cannot be fathomed by mortals on this globe.
I am from the past and present hidden by a veil through which we might not see
Where there is a little talk of thee or me
I have not drunk the milk of paradise nor fed on honeydew
From a lowly origin I have sprung and missed the golden rung
Thousands of memories are lodged in my subconscious mind
That can only be dredged up with the passing of time
Triggered by a smell, a word, a scene, or a remembered dream
Only to be washed away again by Lethe’s
Surging tide or life’s devouring time.
Memories that keep bubbling up from my unconscious mind
Memories that I would rather leave behind
Bringing with them all my sins come home to roost.
Triggered by smells and sights from reading Marcel Proust
I am from those moments lost in time, a prisoner in a jail of my own mind.
A small confining cell to house the contents of my kind
I am from those moments that are but dreams and memories
Which are all I have to define myself in this modern day and time,

He is a nice guy and a good teacher. I missed him when he left South!
