“Frances Cowan Obituary

LANDIS – Mrs. Frances Carr Cowan, 78, of 1595 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Landis, died at her home on Thursday, April 8, 2010. She was born May 21, 1931, in Cabarrus County, to the late Henry Carr and Clorena Brown Carr. In addition to both parents, her husband, the Rev. Clyde W. Cowan Sr., and twin daughters, Dawne and Diedre, preceded her in death. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, USA, in Cleveland, N.C. The visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C., and held certifications from UNC-Charlotte in English and a Master of Arts degree. Prior to retirement, she was a music and English teacher in Rockingham, Iredell, and Rowan counties. Frances was a member, the minister of music and founder of the Senior Breakfast Club of Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church, USA. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She is survived by two devoted sons, Clyde W. Cowan Jr. (Karen), of Troutman, N.C., and Alexis Cowan (Judith), of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren, Samone, Darrius, Serena, Sadarhi, Tiffany, Cassandra and Olivia; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Clark Funeral Home, Inc., is serving the Cowan family.
