Shane’s Flying Disc Show and 7-UP

Shane and Seven Up raised awareness and money for Muscular Dystrophy in the neatest of ways.

Shane had an idea and was living in the middle of the State. I had just done the last end of a school tour and money was thin. This park in Lancaster was PERFECT for me. There were six clean Tennis courts then a field to throw Frisbees in. I said “READY” to this one willing partner. I airbrushed a disc to him that floated perfectly and softly in his arms. Next time around he was tipping and coming close to delaying.

“You guys have to help get me in shape! I have a two month tour coming up with 7-UP! I walked in the building to the marketing rep and had 20 bucks gas money to get back home. I came out with a five grand check and a Green Paint job for Sugar baby. Thank You guardian Angels. As far as I was concerned I had three beautiful Angles to help me. Three school teachers that saw me get swarmed by their kids.

My Sugar Baby is 7-Up Green now! Let’s rock!

Back then ’84ish we had contact sheets and went to the paper and developed the film, presented the editor the shots. I always asked the photogs if I could pay them to send me the contact sheet and postage as I’d be four hours down the road. I just kept making the front page!

Remember I am scanning a contact sheet thumbnail that I was lucky to get.. I’d be on the payphone with four rolls of quarters getting things organized. And PLEASE, PLEASE send a contact print and a special print to me!

I wish I had 8×10’s of all of these. We are just beginning a 30 day whirlwind idea with this guy known for stirring up three different towns in a day. For God’s sake he made front page more than he ever got to see! For the life of me I can’t find the Photographer’s name. She had to take these shots back to her paper and develop the show with intoxicating chemicals.

Be sure to click on any photo you like to make it Biggie Size.

Working so hard! We all wanted the front page!

Remember to click on these pictures. I am not beyond posting photos twice. Please let me know if I do. Play match game. I will make regular adjustments to each page as I go. But it is important I make time for my own history. There will be a future. But I want my history in a place you can go to so I can say I told you so!
