Obituary

Paulette Reneé Byers, born December 15, 1956 to the late Riccardo Alexander and Gladys McCain Byers, lost her long-fought courageous battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer on December 15, 2022.

    She was a graduate with the 1975 class of South Rowan Sr. High School and later attended Winston Salem State University and Central Piedmont Community College.

    Paulette worked as the office manager for 22+ years for Infovisa, Inc. She enjoyed her job and talking to the clients on a daily basis.

    Paulette was a lifelong member of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church and a member of the Lay Council. She served as Secretary of the Senior Usher Board for a number of years. She also served on many committees within the body of the church such as: Missionary Parent Body (Supply Department, Secretary), Hospitality Committee, Homecoming Committee, Pastors Appreciation Committee, and the Board of Christian Education (ACE), also an assistant to the Acolytes and Alter Flowers Ministries. Paulette was instrumental in starting; The MLK Day Prayer Breakfast at Sandy Ridge, the Easter Lilies celebrating, and Trunk or Treat ( named by MHW as “Light Up the Night with Jesus”) former member of Victory Choir, she organized Christmas Parties for the church family. Paulette served behind the scenes on many occasions  helping to make celebrations and functions happen at the Ridge. She always tried to make sure the bulletin boards were kept in season; also, that Mother’s & Father’s Day was extra special at the Ridge. She was crowned WNCC Home Missions Queen in 2018 which is also when she received her breast cancer diagnosis.

    Paulette always tried to keep family ties bonded. She was always trying to help her great nieces and great nephews out whenever possible. She always tried to include everyone, especially the bonus ones. Paulette was a key component in organizing family reunions in the past.

Along with her parents, Ms. Byers was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Linda Byers Faulkner; and brother, William Alexander Byers.

    Paulette leaves to cherish fond memories of her life; her daughter, Mrs. Tia Byers Hunter (Ray Hunter); her son, Carlou Ricardo Byers (Alexis); grandchildren whom she adored, Jaylea Tamal (Jwoky), Ava Noel (Oma’s Boom Boom), Raymond Neal (Bam), Jasiah King (Si-beany), Aylee Lou (babycakes); two bonus grands, Tristan, and Jade; sisters, Patricia Latter, and Harriet Withers (Greg), and Stella Cephas. She also leaves other special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special friend, Terry Russell.

    She would like to leave a special thanks to friends who had been a priceless entity in her life, Golanda Spencer, Lucy Byers, Kim Robbins, Latonya Hughes, Ma Bert, Shea, Trasha Schwendener, Frances Franklin, and Jackie.  To all her other friends and coworkers who checked on her, thank you for the encouragement along the way. You were all truly a blessing.
