From Shane’s Flying Disc Show

I hear Voices, Frisbee Voices!
20230808 Around 3am this morning I was watching Studio 54 on Netflix. Around 47 minutes into the show the narrator is talking about how they treat people at the door and I think I hear the doorman saying “we got the World’s Frisbee Champion here. ” I think from the headlines in the paper briefly shown before the shot shows 1978.
hey Shane! OK, this may sound crazy but your post just sent a rush through my body. I know I’m sure that many times some of our Fribzee brothers and sisters have made it to “the club” on occasion back then, for sure. One particular event though really stands out when Ann Zemitis was able to get Joey Hudoklin Chipper Bro and I and Heddy into “54” as it was called at that time.
The Bud Light Team was on tour and having a soirée stop-over in New York City, visiting Joey‘s, mom, Mitzi, and getting quality time with sister Heddy.
AnyWho, we hit the club, and we’re in the sidewalk queue for a minute or so when Ann gets impatient and decides to go up to the doorman and motions us to join her at the stanchion and rope. She’s mentioning her hook up at the same time. I kina mentioned we are the World Frisbee Champioms and before you know it, we were following Ann into the side door of the club…!
All hell broke loose inside. I remember my first unisex restrooms, all types of “activities” right there in plain sight without any reservation or worry to anyone at all. Oh my God, I remember feeling like I was visiting another planet for the rest of the night.
No doubt the fun went into the wee hours of the morning, but thought of this immediately when I saw your post. Hope you’re well and thanks for the nudge to watch the Netflix. Miss you love you, Brother! ![]()

Possible problem with the Wichita news tape. I’m going to double post it for the time being as of 20240115. When I figure out how to fix it I will.

An Incredible Moment of Extreme Intervention happened on this show. One of my favorite people, Michael Kettman, known as Spin-Man, also appeared on this very same show. Years after the show Michael showed me his display case where he has an autographed Frisbee from John and of course one from me! Michael holds several World Records for Spinning multiple Basketballs at the same time.
Tom Ingle and Crazy John Brooks at SWOPE…
“I first met Crazy John Brooks in the latter years of the 1970s, about a year or so after I started the Kansas City Frisbee Club. And if you know anything about John, you are well aware of his dynamic personality and flying-disc skills.
As a resident of KC, John was great for the club, Kansas City and disc-sports in general.
John Brooks was the best player to come out of Kansas City and his “Crazy” persona became legendary as he competed in tournaments across America.
But as his “Crazy” brand evolved, he also proved himself to be a legitimate entertainer.
During most of the 1980s, John was in and out of KC as he toured the world entering tournaments and doing Frisbee shows as the captain of THE BUD LIGHT FRISBEE TEAM.
Knowing his motivational strengths… I asked John to be the official “Touring Course Pro” of the Swope Park Folf Course.
Since there was no internet or social media at the time… the idea was for John, (through his travels), to widely spread the word about how good Swope was and to draw players to the course.
John took it to heart and did a great job! Players came from coast to coast and the Swope Park Folf Course more than validated John’s influence.
Even though he was very busy during the 80s, John always tried to be at Swope for the big tournaments. His help, support and bright star was invaluable.
His Hall of Fame mark on disc-sports is immeasurable.
The one and only… Crazy John Brooks.”
